Survey Distribution Best Practices: Participant Opt-Out Option

You don’t want to come across as intrusive and demanding of people’s time. To be thoughtful and also engage in good survey etiquette, you should always give your participants the choice to decline taking a survey as well as receiving any future survey invites.

Individuals can also decline to participate through an opt-out of one particular survey. When someone chooses this option, they are essentially saying that they are too busy to take the survey now, but receiving future survey invitations is alright with them.

Opt-Out of Future Invites

Individuals can also decline the receipt of any survey invitations in the future by choosing the second opt-out option. This selection will ensure that the person never receives another email from you inviting them to take a survey.

However, it is best not to include any opt-out messages in your survey design with mandatory, certification-based surveys, because their participation is required.
